It started more than ten years ago. Today, the Afterhours Club is one stage at the Conerstone Music Festival in Bushnell, IL that has grown from that of a myth to a verified legend. Originally booked and run by legendary DJ Scott Blackwell (formerly of N*Soul Records) and currently managed by the gang at Tastyfresh.com, the Afterhours Club has brought you some of the best DJs and producers in the scene that just also happen to place their faith in Jesus. From punk kids to club veterans, Afterhours is the place to be at the Cornerstone Music Festival for a merging of cultures.

Afterhours 20TEN Starts Now

That's right, we're gearing up for another year with the Cornerstone Music Festival. As always, we start each year with a call out to the community for the best Christian DJs to throw us a mix and possibly get on the roster for the Afterhours Club Stage. This year we are experiencing a major venue change.  I'm not sure how much of it has been made public yet by the festival, so you'll have to wait for some details. What I'm sure I can tell you though, is that we will be moving out of the Barn.  This move should put us in a much more trafficked area and if all goes right should allow us to get started a bit earlier each night. Most of the details are still being worked out as I typed, but I can tell you that I am excited about the change.

We will be accepting demos until February 15th, but depending on other factors we may have to end it sooner so get your demo to us ASAP. What we're looking for is something that people new to EDM will like. Something that bridges well from a mix of hardcore and alternative rock. In years past, this has been electro house and breaks. Tech, tribal and progressive house works well. Even a touch of trance is ok, just know that long breakdowns will empty the floor and so will music above 136 bpm. This all could change this year, but for the past three years this is what kept the crowds interest.

You will find a list of requirements on the demo submission form. Keep in mind that if we book you, whatever you played stylistically in your demo is what you will be expected to play at the festival. Also, keep in mind that what we will offer in payment will not cover all of your expenses for the trip. I wish we could fully take care of you, but the budget for our stage is limited.

Beyond the demos, we will start collecting for the third volume of our Afterhours CD during the upcoming months. I am not certain who will be mixing and compiling it this year, but it will be hard to top both Joel Armstrong and Kevin Oneel who did the two previous compilations. We'll announce later when we are ready to take track submissions . If you are unfamiliar with the Afterhours series, you can learn about it here.

That's all for now. I'm looking forward to this year and all of the changes it is bringing. I hope you are too.

Alex Laine started spinning trance in 2004 after falling in love with the genre the previous year. Three years later, he took an extended stay in the United Kingdom and discovered that house music was where his heart was. Still loving the trance that brought him into electronic dance music, he began looking for the perfect combination of trance and house. That mix is electro, the perfect blend between the hard energy of trance and the rhythm of house. Alex brings nearly 5 years of performance experience to the table and has had the pleasure of playing with DJs such as Topher Jones and Greg ‘Stryke’ Chin.

Alex has also been the Editor in Chief of the Tastyfresh.com magazine since the summer of 2007. He currently resides outside of Richmond VA.
